Friday 5's- October 28

1. If you could be a fly on any wall, which would you choose?

I would love to see what life is like in some of the most famous peoples homes. People like Jennifer Aniston, Justin Timberlake, Brad and Angelina, or even the White House. Could be very interesting!
2. Do you budget your Christmas shopping or just get it done without budgeting?

I try to. I usually have a range that I can spend on a person and try very hard to stick to it. This year will probably be different because we are really trying to stay budget conscience.

3. What is the craziest fad diet you have ever done?

Honestly, I haven't tried anything too crazy. Probably the time I took some diet pills when I was in college. Probably not the smartest idea, but it worked!

4. Is there a TV show that you have seen every episode/season of?

FRIENDS! I have seen all of them at least 5 times each. That is a minimum. The earlier seasons, probably even more.
5. What one song always pulls at your heart?

"Amazing Grace" especially when my little sister sings it. I still remember her singing it in front of the church at my Grandma's funeral. She sings it beautifully.

So, Maddox has been showing quite the independence lately. He wants to do everything himself. I am happy to see him growing up and all but it leads to this.

Trick-or-Treat

While planning Maddox's party I got to thinking... wouldnt' it be fun to have all the kids bring their costumes and do a little trick-or-treating? I figured since the grandparents never get to see the kids in costume in person this could be lots of fun!

Except for the extremely small living room we were working with, it went off without a hitch. The kids looked adorable and scored some pretty sweet treats!



Originally he was going to be a cowboy or a kiddie golfer but when he put this on, I couldn't pass it up!

Birthday Party Weekend!

Saturday was the big day! We celebrated Maddox's first birthday and almost everyone made it. He was king of the show and loved every minute of it.

 We had a great meal (if I do say so myself!)  and the day was fun aside from the Hawkeye loss. It was Maddox's request that everyone come doing their black and gold to which most people adhered to.

He fared very well with his gifts and was a pretty good sport for most of the day. I was proud of him for being such a big boy.

Farming Weekend

As I mentioned a week or so ago, Maddox and I headed to Iowa for a little farming action. When we got down there the first thing we did was hitch a ride in the semi.

(of course he didn't drive, but he wanted to!)

Saturday he hung out with a family friend while I worked ground. He enjoyed his time and even ignored me when I got home. Grandpa and I came in at the same time, both with our arms out, and Maddox chose him over me. NOT fair!

Sunday we headed out in the combine for a few rounds to enjoy the sights with Nana.

 Maddox got pretty comfortable rather quickly and hung out up close and personal.

By the time we got to this photo with Grandpa Maddog needed a nap. He'd had it!

It was great getting away and enjoying the country life for a few days.... I miss it!

Five Question Friday- October 23rd

1. Who is the better cook, you or your spouse?

Justin better at grilling for sure (it scares me!).  As for cooking, I am learning.

2. How often do you talk to your mom?

Usually at least once a day. Sometimes more. Yup, its a lot but I like that way!

3. Are you adventurous in the kitchen or stick to the recipe?

Definitely not adventurous. I am not really the cooking type of person so recipes it is!

4. Is your second toe longer than your big toe?

No they are actually even.

5. Do you dress up for Halloween? (Bonus question: What will you be this year?)

I LOVE to dress up!! Actually JUSTIN loves to dress up. I think it is fun but probably not as fun as Justin thinks it is. I can't wait to get Maddox all dressed up this year, he is going to be adorable!

Bonus Answer: I am either being part of Three's Company OR a cowgirl.

Houston, We Have a..........

1 Year Old!  

Can't believe it, but it is true. Maddox Robert is officially 1 year old!

To be honest, I can't even remember life before him. He is the perfect addition to our little family. He has spunk and personality, no fear (ABSOLUTELY NO FEAR!), contagious giggles, silly dance moves, crazy hair, amazing blue eyes, wonderful hugs, and the list could go on and on.

He is just Maddox. 

The perfect combination of his daddy and me and I wouldn't want it any other way.

So, HAPPY BIRTHDAY Mad Man/ Mad Dog/ Peanut/ Mr. Maddox! We love you very much!

Friday 5's- October 15

1. What is your favorite Halloween candy?
Probably skittles.

2. Do you fold your socks?
I do but I seriously hate it.

3. What is something that you wish you had been warned about?

I am not sure this would really count but I wish someone would have warned me about how intense the Mama Bear instinct is. I am in full protect mode at all times it seems!
4. What is the most significant difference between you and your significant other?

We prioritize things completely differently. He sees a mess, I see a fun day with Maddox.

5. What are three words you would use to describe yourself? (And, just for fun...if your significant other is around, ask him/her what 3 words they would use to describe you!!)
 
I would say caring, mommy,  and creative. If you would have asked me that a few months ago I think they would have been different but these seem to hit home for me.  

Justin wouldn't answer... I asked a few times. :P

Family Pictures

Tomorrow we are (finally) getting some professional family photos taken. JR won a free session with an 11 x 14 print at LEEP's Bowl-a-thon back in April so we are taking full advantage. Originally we were going to have then taken in August but due to scheduling conflicts, our 3rd try seems to be the charm!

I am excited to see what she can do and hopefully have some great photos to share with all of you. I will let you know when we get some proofs and possibly share a link if they are uploaded to her website. Wish us luck!

A year ago.....

I have really been reflecting over the past year these past few days... I remember the longing I had to hold my baby in my arms. A year ago yesterday was my due date. I wanted to be done. I wanted to meet my baby. I was more than ready to become a mother. My impatience was killing me!

Here I am one year later loving every minute of being a mommy. Being able to hold, squeeze, chase, and just hang out with him has been amazing. What a trip it has been and I can't wait to see what the rest of our lives have in store.

Pumpkin Patch

On Saturday we headed up to Emma Krumbees in Belle Plaine for our first experience at a pumpkin patch. I don't know that I have every actually gone out into a patch and picked a pumpkin (besides our own garden) so I was really looking forward to it. Maddox was having a blast running around, looking at everything and chasing the "big" kids all around him.

When you walk into the place there is a giant hill of hay. Now I am actually allergic to that stuff (darn you allergies!) but do you think it stopped m me from snapping photos- Nope sure didn't! Maddox thought he was king of the hill and loved rolling, diving, jumping, face planting, and anything else he could do. He was in hog heaven!

We even took a quick ride around in the cute little train they had. Maddox was enjoying it and actually sat still which in itself is amazing!

And finally we were off on the great pumpkin hunt. There were so many to choose from but Maddox found one he fell in love with. He looked at it from every angle and even tried picking it up.

I think we all had a great time and the weather was great- hot even. Maybe too hot for some of us! I know I say this all the time but Maddox is getting so big and SO independent. He really amazes me everyday with the things that he learns and the fact that he has no fear.

Our day at Minneopa Falls

Last weekend we headed out to a really neat park outside Mankato called Minneopa Falls. A few years ago JR and I got our photos taken here as well so it was fun to go back and see all the water after all the flooding. Maddox was having a heyday just running through the leaves and watching the water rush by. I think it fascinated him.

It was lots of fun gettin out and enjoying the beautiful weather. Hope to do it again very soon! 

Fall Photography

After several years of wanting- we finally made a purchase. :) We are now the proud owners of a Nikon camera and I have been having some fun mastering my photography skills. I'm loving it! Next up, photography class..... whenever that will be.
