you're kidding, right?!

It has taken me a few weeks BUT I think I have finally cooled off a bit to write about my experience...

The Monday before we left on our trip to D.C., Maddox and I made our way to Walmart to pick up a few things including his prescription. We found a neat snack tray that we could attach to our stroller, diapers, and 2 magazines. normally I wouldn't list out my purchases however, this is part of why this story is so ridiculous.

I get to the check out counter (#5 to be exact!) and she runs through my things. Maddox is getting bucky as per usual taking his shoes off, moving around trying to get out of the strap.

I hand over his brand new Nike tennis shoes and ask the clerk to place them in my bag.

She does.

I go on my merry little way, toting my darling son and my bag of goodies...

When I got home I was excited to show JR my latest finding. I knew he would be so pumped- ha! Low and behold, the tray along with the shoes, were nowhere to be found. So, I immediately called the store to have them locate it. They do and all should be good as long as I am there by Wednesday. (Remember this is Monday!)

Apparently these items warranted 2 bags, not 1 still not sure about that one.....
A few things I forgot to mention. I had gone to the store 3 times that day to get Maddox's prescription filled. The first time they didn't have my Dr's order yet, the second it wasn't done, and the 3rd was when they informed me they only had enough for 2 days worth of the dosage (Completely different story!) AND  the infamous leaving of the shoes.... Of course Justin and I were also down to 1 vehicle because we were waiting to get his brakes fixed so this created a problem for me getting to the store on Tuesday.

So, back to the story.

The Customer Service Rep told me they could hang on to the stuff. I mentioned I probably wouldn't be able to get there until Wednesday to which she responded "no problem, just bring your receipt".

On Wednesday, in a rush I head to Walmart to pick up my stuff.

When I got there I went up to the Customer Service counter. I asked the woman behind the counter for my bag of stuff. Here is how the conversation went.

Me: "I am here to pick up a snack tray and little blue Nike shoes I left here on Monday."

WL: "Well it has been over 24 hours since you purchased the merchandise so it may have been put out on the floor. Let me get the receipt book."

She walks to the cupboard behind the desk, ruffles through the shelves, finds my receipt number in the book, shows it to me, and it lists a snack tray and toddler shoes in the description line. She pointed to the line item and said asked me if that was what I came for. I said yes.

WL: " Oh, you have the little shoes. Those are so cute."  walks back to the cupboard and proceeds to look for the shoes. Acts completely confused because she doesn't know where they are.

WL: "Well like I said, it has been over 24 hours so they probably put the merchandise on the floor. You can either go see if there are more on the floor or we can return them and give you your money back"

ME: "Ok, well what about the shoes"

WL: "Um.... well it. has. been. um, ah, 24 hours so they are probably put on the floor"

ME: "No, I don't think you understand..... They are blue NIKE shoes. You don't sell them here."

WL: " I am not sure what to tell you, I remember the shoes but they are probably out on the floor because after 24 hours we put merchandise back on the floor"

obviously I am very aggravated at this point!

ME: "So you're telling me that you are going to sell something that your store doesn't even carry? How can you do that?!?! You don't even sell these here........"

I repeat this about 20 times, in several different ways I swear. She just kept stating the "policy" is that after 24 hours the merchandise is forfeited. The discussion culminated with me going back to baby section, picking up the snack tray, and then heading to the shoe dept. where I began digging through the shoes cursing the store because I just knew they put them out and sold them.

As I am sifting through all of the shoes I hear the CS Rep talking with someone about my situation. They are walking back to the section apparently looking for the shoes. They hadn't seen me (I was crouched down digging) and they were talking about their 24 hour policy and how things are put back on the floor. This is when I stood up, told them I hadn't found them on the racks, and asked if they had any other ideas.

We continue walking.

We walk right up to a cart full of merchandise to be put on the floor and wouldn't you know it, Maddox's shoes were in there, ready to be put on the floor. ARE YOU KIDDING ME!?!?!?

I grabbed them and walked out of the store.

Ok, I wish it would have been that dramatic but I still had to get my darn tray I had already paid for! Unfortunately I couldn't just leave but don't you worry, I let it be known I thought the "policy" was a joke!

I am still flabbergasted by the notion that a company thinks they can sell whatever is left in the store. I actually asked the CS Rep if they just sold whatever was left behind and she never really answered me... Let's just say, I do my best not to go into that store now. Make sure you warn your friends, don't leave anything behind because they have no quams about putting it out on the floor and selling it!

  1. I read this at work tonight and just about fell out of my chair laughing. I told Kyle about it over supper and he can not get over!! Reason #225 not to shop at Wal-Mart. I can only imagine the amount of frustration!
